Nickel-based alloys are high-temperature alloys with nickel as the matrix (generally more than 50%) with high strength and good oxidation resistance and gas corrosion resistance in the range of 650-1000 °C. They are mainly used in marine, environmental protection, energy, petrochemical industry. Under the harsh conditions of ultra-deep, high temperature, high pressure and high sulfur content, nickel-based alloy pipes with oxidation resistance, toughness, corrosion resistance, high strength and other characteristics will be more widely used in the exploration of high acid oil and gas fields mining.

The manufacturing process of nickel-based alloy oil well pipe is complex, the production is difficult, and the quality requirements are strict


The alloy content is extremely high, of which the content of Ni, MO, Cr and other alloys is as high as 80%, and the alloy content of general super duplex stainless steel does not exceed 40%;


The manufacturing process is complicated. Due to the high deformation resistance of G3 nickel-based alloy, it cannot be "pierced" at all by the perforation process, and can only be "extruded" one by one after punching in the middle;


The material strength is outstanding, the nickel-based alloy is a single-phase austenite structure, and the strength at the beginning of forming is only about 200Mpa, while the oil well pipe used in high acid gas fields generally requires a strength of more than 760MPa, and the G3 nickel-based alloy is "hardened" The cold-rolling process has improved its own material strength, so as to meet the special needs of high-acid oil and gas fields;


Excellent corrosion resistance, under 150℃, no matter how high the partial pressure of carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulfide and how high the chloride ion concentration is, the G3 nickel-based alloy oil well pipe is still bright as new after long-term use;

Strict production requirements, natural gas wells with a well depth of more than 5000m, from the surface to the bottom of the well, each oil casing is connected by a special thread, and the G3 nickel-based alloy is particularly easy to "stick the knife" in the process of processing. Damaged machining tools, machining efficiency is less than 5% of conventional steel products. In addition, the well depth of more than 5,000 meters usually has a "dog-leg degree" of 20-30°. How to ensure that the natural gas does not leak, the sealing performance of the special thread is also very high.

Breaking the monopoly of foreign countries and accelerating the process of import substitution

The manufacturing technology of nickel-based alloy OCTG has been monopolized by a few foreign steel manufacturers for a long time. Major foreign suppliers are American Special Steel, German Mannesmann and Japanese Sumitomo.


In 2006, SHBG took the lead in the localization of G3 nickel-based alloy oil well pipe in China. With the joint efforts of the research team members, the product was successfully trial-produced for the first time in July 2007, and was successfully tested in the Sinopec Puguang gas field for the first time in June 2009. Going down, breaking the long-term monopoly of foreign manufacturers in this field.

As the demand for oil well pipes continues to increase, the demand for nickel-based alloy oil well pipes used in the development of special oil and gas wells will continue to increase with the increase in the number of high-acid oil and gas fields exploited.
