The National Composites Centre (NCC) announced that Reaction Engines Ltd. has joined the NCC. The company is developing a supersonic propulsion system for aircraft and spacecraft, code-named "Sabre" (SABRE), known as the "Cooperative Aspirated Rocket Engine."
The reaction engine company said that advanced ceramic-based composites will play a key role in the development of parts for the commercial aerospace market, while NCC promised to help the company accelerate research on ceramic-based composites (CMC) in the future. Richard Wawel, CTO of Reaction Engines, also stated, "The company's participation in the National Composites Center is to accelerate research in ceramic-based composites, which allows us to leverage NCC's expertise to assist in developing UK supplies Chain, thereby providing the supply of prototype parts to meet the development needs of the Sabre engine project.
