Airborne Oil & Gas and SíMEROS enter Brazil deep-sea riser market for thermoplastic composites

Airborne Oil & Gas and SíMEROS Technologies have signed a cooperation agreement to deliver the first certified thermoplastic composite pipeline (TCP) riser for use in Brazil's deep-sea oil and gas sector.

Since 2018, Airborne Oil & Gas has begun a certification program for its TCP riser. The riser is the world's first fully integrated, free-hanging composite deep-sea riser. It is reported that the project has received investment from major operators in the region, and is designed to allow TCP risers to be certified for deep-sea applications, including applications in sub-salt fields and highly corrosive environments.

Airborne Oil & Gas's TCP riser was originally designed to provide the lowest cost solution for the installation of dynamic risers in deep sea applications, while providing operators with the greatest flexibility in subsea layout and selection of installation vessels.

The TCP outlet pipes and risers developed by Airborne Oil & Gas Company can be flexibly and cost-effectively installed in the form of free hanging through existing flexible pipe laying vessels and reel-type pipe laying vessels.

Renato Bastos, Brazilian Vice President of Airborne Oil & Gas, said: "After we announced the TCP riser certification program in June last year, we are very pleased that SíMEROS has become our partner in Brazil, supporting our local certification, and developing and Manufactures TCP end fittings. While using rugged materials that we have recognized for many years, we have also developed TCP risers that perform best in terms of cost, weight and bending radius. "

Fabiano Bertoni, director of SíMEROS, said: "We are very pleased to work with Airborne Oil & Gas on a certification project that may change the future of the deep sea industry. Brazil has a very attractive deep sea market and it will play an important role in the global deep sea market character of.

The TCP riser certification project involves rigorous testing under the full supervision of DNV GL Group, as well as the certification of TCP risers (for hydrocarbon, water and gas services) in deep sea and dynamic application environments. "

"Installing the riser in a free-hanging form can largely eliminate the development of traditional floating production storage and offloading units (FPSO), and it is faster to install, while also avoiding the use of floating modules." Airborne Oil & Gas CEO Oliver Kassam added. "So far, we have provided a variety of applications (including petrochemical, water treatment and natural gas) to major operators around the world, and we are quickly achieving certification for TCP riser projects."
