Airbus plans to develop a new type of aviation composite material by studying AMSilk's biosteel fiber application principles.
Bio-steel fiber developed by AMSilk
AMSilk (Planneg, Germany), the world's first supplier of biosynthetic silk industry, announced on September 12 a partnership with Airbus (Toulouse, France). The two companies have signed a joint cooperation agreement to jointly develop a new generation of composite materials for the aerospace industry.
Airbus has always been a leader in the aerospace industry, and in the process of developing carbon fiber composites, they plan to explore a new path for the design and construction of aircraft by studying the biological steel fiber developed by AMSilk.
The production of a new generation of composite materials will use AMSilk's bio-steel fiber technology, which is a technology that can give lightweight construction multiple impact resistance and flexibility.
Bio-steel fiber is made of a kind of bio-polymer based on natural spider silk, which is famous for its excellent strength, flexibility and toughness. This fiber is produced by a closed-loop biotechnology. This process allows the product to have a long service life and does not require petroleum as a raw material during the production process.
JSi Klein, CEO of AMSilk, said: "We are very happy to work with the world's leading Airbus company to create a new material. We are always committed to producing high-performance and sustainable materials, It is possible to create a new, stronger and more sustainable development path for the entire aerospace industry. "
The two companies aim to launch a prototype composite in 2019.
