Michelin plans to add radio frequency identification (RFID) chips to all its tires by 2023. The chip can provide predictive maintenance services to help improve driving safety.
RFID can help advanced driver assistance systems such as ESP to make fine adjustments based on tire wear and working conditions. In addition, it can also provide timely and accurate tire replacement and maintenance information, provide dealers and repair shops with accurate tire identification and data, and reduce adaptation errors.
Because RFID technology can achieve accurate tire identification, it is conceivable that in the future, drivers will see a tire status display icon next to the vehicle's fuel gauge. Implanting RFID in tires makes many new business models possible and can further improve driving safety.
