AMAC and metal composite glass fiber/aluminum composite fiber, basalt fiber composite material company FibreCoat jointly develop glass fiber yarn products

In early November, German AMAC announced its cooperation with FibreCoat, a spin-off of RWTH Aachen University, to market a series of products including aluminum composite fiber yarn. FibreCoat's main products are metal composite glass fiber or basalt fiber yarn, fabrics and composite materials .

Specifically, FibreCoat's recently developed Alucoat product is a two-component multifilament yarn with basalt fiber or glass fiber as the core and aluminum coating. It is suitable for use as radars, antennas, unmanned vehicles, mobile phones and Electromagnetic shielding materials for certain buildings. Due to the high thermal conductivity and heat transfer capability of Alucoat, FibreCoat said that the material can also be used in industrial applications such as car battery boxes, electric shunts for fine particle air filters, reinforcements for cast aluminum parts, and conductive yarns for smart fabrics.

Alucoat will be on the market on New Year's Day 2021 in the form of yarns, fabrics and non-woven fabrics, with complete specifications and varieties. The material has a minimum working temperature of 400°C. In addition, the material can achieve a shielding effectiveness of 80 to 120 decibels.

"Alucoat is the first yarn product on the market that evenly coats every single filament with an aluminum coating during the spinning process," said Dr. Robert Brüll, CEO of FibreCoat. "Therefore, this product has excellent performance, its electromagnetic shielding performance and thermal conductivity are outstanding, and the price is much lower than the current products on the market. In addition, we are developing a Glass fiber multifilament yarn with polypropylene coating for automotive and industrial applications."
