The American Arris company has developed Additive Molding™ technology. The technology uses a 3D printing process to perfectly combine the speed of injection molding technology and the strength of carbon fiber materials, which has attracted widespread attention in the industry.
Ethan Escowitz, founder and CEO of Arris, said that this technology will be mainly used in the aerospace industry, followed by consumer electronics and automotive industries.
In current parts, the carbon fiber is cut at the end position, which reduces the strength of the carbon fiber. The new technology developed by Arris can print carbon fiber tows that are continuously wound on the entire part without the presence of truncated fibers-this structure is called "near net shape" by Ethan Escowitz. Using this technology, it is possible to manufacture more complex and finer parts.
Ethan Escowitz believes that the aerospace industry is the main market for carbon fiber parts, and replacing titanium with carbon fiber parts can reduce weight by 78%.
