Hexcel Composites and SCMR Aviation Materials Technology Co., Ltd. celebrated the official opening of their new joint venture laboratory and materials testing facility in Shanghai, China on June 27.
New Materials Testing Co., Ltd., invested by the two companies, will provide China with world-class aerospace standard material testing laboratories, including technical support services such as material qualification certification for commercial aircraft projects. The laboratory's planning functions include: mechanical and chemical testing of composite laminate samples (including fatigue performance), material qualification, and support for the supply chain for Chinese customers.
The new laboratory covers an area of more than 1,000 square meters and will be fully operational in the coming weeks. It will employ 18 technicians to conduct high-reliability composite testing for commercial aviation customers in China and the Pan-Asian region.
The new laboratory, which received AS9100 certification in May 2019, will apply advanced equipment and standards already used by Hewlett-Packard in other facilities around the world to serve existing and potential aviation customers.
