Apple’s new patent: using special glass to make car panels and windows with the appearance of convex curved edges

Recently, the United States Patent and Trademark Office (U.S. Patent and Trademark Office) granted Apple 59 new patents, some of which are related to Apple's Titan project (Project Titan), involving the use of special glass to make car panels and windows.

The 10,494,860 patent granted by Apple is related to the Titan Project. Specifically, the patent is a method capable of manufacturing a glass structure with outer rounded edges, and the outer surface of the glass structure has a certain curvature.

The method also includes subdividing the glass structure, dividing the main part and one or more panels, wherein the main part includes a front window area, a roof area and a rear window area. In addition, the method includes connecting the main part and one or more panels to the body.

The patent also shows a vehicle with a body, front windows, rear windows, roof and one or more movable windows installed on the body. The car is equipped with a monolithic glass structure during production, which has a convex curved shape extending upward from the outer edge.

Apple patent Figure 6 shows the process (660) for producing glass, such as the main part (644) and the panel (646), as well as the process for producing vehicles (640) equipped with such glass.

The glass structure (# 600) can be made by all processes suitable for the geometry of the glass structure. The processes suitable for making the glass structure may include stamping, blow molding, mold forming, sheet forming, glass casting, vapor growth, 3D printing And injection molding.
