Arkema announces acquisition of Afinitica, a Spanish company specializing in instant adhesives (also known as cyanoacrylates) to expand its engineering adhesives business. This small, targeted acquisition will enable Bostik to strengthen its adhesive position in markets with strong growth potential, including electronics and medical devices, and other durable goods manufacturing applications.
Afinitica has developed and patented a highly innovative manufacturing process for cyanoacrylate monomers. This process is used to formulate engineering instant adhesives, and its application is wider than traditional cyanoacrylates.
The new adhesive formulated by Afinitica can be used on any type of surface and any material (metal, wood, ceramic, plastic, etc.) and has the advantages of being odorless, non-irritating and leaving no marks.
Instant adhesives are especially used in high value-added niche applications in the electronics market, but also in the automotive or communications, and optical and medical equipment markets. Due to the surge in the use of electronics in all aspects of daily life, the market demand for instant adhesives has grown strongly.
With this targeted acquisition, Bostik will expand its existing assembly adhesive portfolio while accelerating its business development in the durable goods market.
