Basanite Industrial`s basalt fiber-reinforced polymer bar BasaFlex™ passes initial certification testing

American Basanite Industrial Corporation (hereinafter referred to as "Basanite") announced that it received the initial certification test data of its BasaFlex basalt fiber reinforced polymer bars (BFRP bars) from an independent laboratory at the University of Miami. The laboratory concluded that its BFRP tendons performed well in the initial series of tests and had met or exceeded all the requirements of the ACI440 and FDOT Spec §932-3 standards. Certification testing is in progress and is expected to end in July 2020, with full results subsequently.

The certification test report of the University of Miami [#R-5.10 03-30-20 BASA] details the initial stages and results of the test. The report shows that the performance of BasaFlex in tensile strength testing is much better than the standard requirements, and on all four sizes of BasaFlex exceeds the standard requirements by an average of 42.0%.

More importantly, after direct comparison with the commonly used No. 60 steel bar, the average tensile strength of BasaFlex is 1.5 to 1.8 times stronger than the equivalent steel bar. When compared by product weight, BasaFlex is more than 2.5 times stronger.

BasaFlex is a better basalt fiber-reinforced polymer composite rib. Its design purpose is to increase the inherent value of concrete structures by eliminating corrosion problems caused by moisture, intermediate products, or steel bars themselves. Basanite is positioned as a recognized leader in the design of basalt fiber composite products in the concrete industry.

Basanite Industrial Corporation is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Basanite Corporation, which is a publicly traded company that produces composite materials for reinforced concrete made of basalt fiber-reinforced polymers.
