BASF and HYMER join forces to create VisionVenture concept RV to be showcased at 2019 K show

The VisionVenture concept car built by BASF and HYMER is about to enter the production stage, and the audience can get a glimpse of the future life of the RV. This new RV uses the development technology of the BASF Innovation Center and has made bold attempts in terms of lightweight structure, independence, travel experience and design. At the end of August, the model was unveiled at the Dusseldorf Touring Car Show in Germany. From October 16th to 23rd, BASF will exhibit VisionVenture at the 2019 K show in Dusseldorf (Hall 5, Hall C21 / D21).

Dr. Martin Jung, head of BASF's Performance Materials Department, said: "Our products provide VisionVenture designers with unprecedented new options and new features. From inspiration to finished products, the final results fully demonstrate our diversity in materials Strength."

In this concept car, more than 20 BASF high-performance plastics and a new spraying technology are used. The variety of performance involved is impressive. For example, BASF and HYMER have used a variety of innovative lightweight materials and processes in the interior and exterior, which improves comfort and makes the car body more durable. VisionVenture has also set new standards in design, such as combining plastic with natural materials such as linen and slate. Solutions for energy management, thermal insulation and electrical components, a set of tailor-made sound and vibration measures, and more than 100 3D printed parts complete the concept of this modern wagon.

Christian Bauer, Managing Director of HYMER Co., Ltd., said: "HYMER has always been synonymous with high quality, innovation and exploration. VisionVenture, developed in collaboration with BASF, perfectly reflects these values. VisionVenture will bring unprecedented freedom to customers.

Lightweight solution

VisionVenture`s world`s first self-recharging event roof is one of the car`s biggest highlights. It can be inflated in 60 seconds, creating an unprecedented spacious living space. The Elastollan® coating used on the roof allows the exterior walls to be both waterproof and windproof, providing a suitable temperature to ensure a good night ’s sleep. The cushions and mattresses in VisionVenture can stay fresh and cool even in the hottest climate. This temperature regulation effect comes from Elastocoat® C Spray Gel. This material is effectively attached to various PU foams and can be applied to different places and various types of mattress surfaces in various thicknesses.

In the past, no one has successfully combined the natural stone used in interior design with a lightweight solution. However, this will become a thing of the past with the successful development of Veneo Slate®. Veneo Slate® is made of non-foamed polyurethane Elastocoat®. This global innovation has a thin coating of ultra-lightweight real stone, only 1 mm thick. It is a flexible material that can save space. Elastoflex® polyurethane foam has similar properties. This equally lightweight material uses a unique combination of natural materials and plastics, using linen fabric to manufacture cabinet doors and kitchen panels. Like Veneo Slate®, it can also be used on round and curved surfaces without the use of heavier materials such as wood and particle board.

BASF uses a variety of 3D printing technologies to manufacture more than 100 parts of VisionVenture's interior and exterior trim, including wheel eyebrow linings, body parts, lampshades, handles, hooks, and tablet computer stands. Whether large or small parts, hard or soft textures, carbon fiber reinforced or transparent materials, untreated or painted surfaces, this digital production concept can provide a cost-effective and quick solution for single parts and small batch production Program. Polyurea spray coating Elastocoat® C provides long-term protection for VisionVenture's 3D printed wheel eyebrows and door sills, window sills and balconies, and other components, preventing stains, scratches, or stone impact damage.

Independent, sustainable and intelligent

True freedom comes from independence. VisionVenture achieves independence through the clever use of materials in energy management, thermal insulation and electrical components.

In VisionVenture, BASF used two high-performance innovative thermal insulation materials SLENTEX® and SLENTITE® for the first time. Refrigerator equipment, door panels, window frame profiles and subfloors use solid panel material SLENTITE®. It can be easily cut according to size requirements, and has the stability of off-road vehicles. SLENTEX® with high efficiency, safety and space saving features provides protection against overheating of the batteries, engine compartment, oven and pot rack on VisionVenture. The non-flammability of this high-performance insulation material can effectively prevent the spread of sparks or fire. Not only that, neither material will show an aging effect during use.

BASF's semi-aromatic high-performance polyamide Ultramid® Advanced is extremely lightweight and tough. Even when exposed to high temperatures, this product line has outstanding rigidity and solid-state properties. In addition, this polyamide maintains mechanical stability, making it ideal for engine or nacelle applications. Ultramid® Advanced T1000 and Ultramid® Advanced N are highly resistant to hydrolysis and are perfectly suited for VisionVenture's kitchen and bathroom installation piping systems.

Vivid imprint-from inside to outside

VisionVenture powerfully highlights the design elements. The overall interior uses a lot of imitation leather polyurethane system Haptex®, which fully guarantees the comfort of the RV. This material is soft and comfortable to touch, with rich colors and texture. At the same time it is very easy to clean and contains no organic solvents. The two diffuse pendant lights on the top are made of translucent material Ultramid® Vision. The lamp group hidden in the ceiling not only casts a beam of light for the desktop, but also serves as a downlight to illuminate the entire interior. Ultramid® Vision is not only scratch-resistant, but also has excellent chemical resistance.

VisionVenture's exterior coatings are also ingenious. For functional considerations, RVs are usually milky white or white to avoid overheating in summer. BASF and HYMER adopted gray-green for VisionVenture, showing us that in the future, the paint surface can also achieve personal choice. This coating is based on Chromacool temperature management technology. Chromacool can reflect the infrared rays of the sun, thereby reducing the heat accumulation in the car, while providing a rich choice of colors. This passive temperature control technology means that the heating of the body surface can be reduced by up to 20 ° C and the interior temperature by up to 4 ° C. The reduced energy consumption of air conditioners helps to reduce fuel consumption and improve the range of electric vehicles.

Maximum comfort-on the road, by the sea

VisionVenture means that you never have to sacrifice comfort. Designers and engineers bring a complete set of innovative materials from BASF, which ensures this in a novel and innovative way.

As mentioned earlier, Infinergy® will most likely be reminiscent of the Adidas Energy Boost running shoes. This time it debuted in VisionVenture in a black appearance. This foamed thermoplastic polyurethane (E-TPU) is used on the steps and the edge of the bed to add beauty while releasing pressure points. As a connection module, it combines the slats in the slatted bed frame to create an excellent individually adjustable mattress base with high material elasticity. The elastic effect can be maintained under continuous load, this effect is called "resilient".

In order to relax as much as possible while traveling, VisionVenture uses pillows and mattresses as well as home furnishings. The memory effect of CosyPUR® molded flexible foam ensures maximum comfort. The microporous morphology of this polyurethane material achieves a special property that can be adjusted from ultra-soft to viscoelastic. It is air-permeable and breathable, machine washable, and maintains performance after long-term use.

At the same time, in order to avoid the impact of road travel on comfort, BASF and HYMER also created a complete set of customized NVH (noise, vibration and roughness) solutions for VisionVenture, using compact microcellular polyurethane Cellasto® for the interior , Transmission system and chassis reduce vibration and shield noise. The developers also specially equipped VisionVenture with a special solution of Cellasto® for chassis vibration decoupling and structural support for off-road adventures, combining driving safety, power and comfort.
