BASF doubles production capacity with acResin® UV-curable hot-melt PSA

By establishing a second production facility at the Ludwigshafen site in Germany, BASF has doubled its acResin® UV-curable acrylic hot melt adhesive production capacity. This move further strengthens BASF's leading position as a solution provider for the adhesives industry. The unit was built by BASF for tens of millions of euros, and additional capacity is currently in operation.

Dr. Jürgen Pfister, vice president of management of the adhesives and fiber bonding business unit for BASF's Europe, Middle East and Africa region, said, "In the high-end adhesive field, the global trend is to develop high-quality and sustainable application solutions. AcResin, an acrylic hot-melt adhesive, can meet high development requirements. As a partner in the adhesive industry, our goal is to maintain stable growth in this specialty material field.

Solutions for high-performance and sustainable applications

acResin has excellent application characteristics and provides high-performance application characteristics and sustainable advantages. It can be used to make characteristic products for the pressure-sensitive adhesive industry, including labels and special tapes used in the food, automotive and construction industries. In 2018, BASF conducted an eco-efficacy analysis on sticky labels for durable goods. The analysis results show that acResin is a more cost-effective and sustainable solution compared to solvent-based adhesives. As a 100% solid acrylic hot melt adhesive with UV curing, acResin has great advantages in terms of organic compound (VOC) content, low odor and skin sensitization. The product also has high transparency, excellent aging and heat resistance, and water and chemical resistance. In addition, acResin helps users meet the stringent safety requirements of food contact materials.
