BASF launches high-performance applications based on Elastollan TPU

On March 15, 2018, at CHINAPLAS 2018, BASF will show a batch of new applications of Elastollan® thermoplastic polyurethane elastomer (TPU) to meet the needs of high performance and durability. Elastollan's outstanding resilience can be used to meet the functional requirements of ore screens, electric vehicle charging cables and medical devices.

BASF will show cables that have recently passed the China National Standard for Electric Vehicle Charging Cables (GB / T33594-2017). With outstanding abrasion resistance, mechanical strength, flexibility and chemical resistance, Elastollan helps to extend the service life of electric vehicle charging cables and ensure that electric vehicle charging is stable and safe.

In the sensitive medical field, Elastollan enhances safety and health protection for more patients. For example, in an oxygenator used for cardiac surgery, hollow fibers made of Elastollan film are connected at the ends by a small polyurethane system to build a solid stent to ensure accurate oxygen supply to the blood. BASF's thermoplastic polyurethane materials generate almost no static electricity and do not hinder surgery. Thanks to the properties of the Elastollan material, it is possible to safely build ultra-high-precision fibers with a thickness of only 70 microns.

In addition, BASF will display an ore screen made of Elastollan. This ore screen is more resistant to abrasion, cutting and tearing than traditional materials. Due to the long-term processing of rocks, metals and gravel, the durability of ore screens is extremely high. With superior durability, Elastollan helps optimize sieve performance and thus increase process efficiency.
