BASF push-pull extrusion molding Elastocoat C polyurethane (PU) resin temperature stability up to 200 ° C

Elastocoat C is BASF's well-known polyurethane (PU) resin, used in pultrusion technology to achieve high-performance profiles. Compared with other resins, these PU systems not only show a significant advantage in the pultrusion speed at low tensile strength and very high interlayer shear strength (ILSS), but also do not radiate on the profile.

With the release of the new grade Elastocoat C 6226/107, the product is opening up a series of new application areas. First, using the innovative catalyst developed by BASF as a basis, the improvement of this product allows the processing temperature to be as high as 200 ° C, thus opening up new application areas, such as in automotive or construction applications. In contrast to the sister product that only one or the other is allowed to use, it can be reinforced with both glass fiber and carbon fiber. In addition, it has an extremely low viscosity and a pulling force of less than 2kN (kilonewtons).

Dr. Julia Liese, Manager of BASF Polyurethane Research Laboratory, explained: "By developing our own new BASF catalysts for polyurethanes and polyisocyanurates, we can now fine-tune the reactivity of your pultrusion system in innovative ways The complex based on lithium chloride salt, combined with special epoxy resin and internal release agent, can control the reaction path between PU and PIR, so that the separated PU-rich and PIR-rich chains can be obtained at the nanoscale Paragraph. The new formulation achieves the temperature and chemical stability of the PIR bond by maintaining the mechanical properties of the non-brittle PU. "

With Elastocoat C 6226/107 opening up a whole new field in terms of temperature stability, it has now been recognized by the German FSK – Fachverband Schaumkunststoffe und Polyurethane and won the 2019 Plastic and Polyurethane Innovation Award.

Bert Neuhaus, BASF`s development project manager, said: "This award recognizes our work and promotes the success of this new product in the market. The outstanding teamwork demonstrated by research, development and marketing has enabled this Success is possible. The award confirms to us that we will be able to develop new markets by developing high-temperature systems. "

With the new generation of pultrusion resin Elastocoat C 6226/107, BASF can achieve applications that require high temperature resistance, such as electronic coating processes and applications that require stable modulus over a wide range of operating temperatures. The material can be produced on pultrusion equipment suitable for polyurethane without further adjustment.
