BASF’s light stabilizers help Chinese nonwovens manufacturers increase productivity

July 26, 2018 — BASF's light stabilizers help Foshan Nanhai Bidefu Nonwoven Co., Ltd., a leading domestic non-woven fabric manufacturer, to create high-quality polypropylene (PP) non-woven car covers and improve manufacturing processes. The hood protects the car from harmful UV rays and bad weather.

Ultraviolet rays and high temperatures can damage the body paint and cause the body to lose light and discolor. The sun increased the temperature inside the car, turning the brand new instrument panel into a pile of broken and deformed plastic blocks. Vehicles parked in the open for a long time should use UV-resistant car covers, which can reflect harmful UV rays and keep the interior temperature low.

In the production process of such non-woven fabrics, the PP material needs to be spun into filaments and then bonded by heating without using a binder. These materials are often processed at high temperatures, and manufacturers are pursuing efficient production processes while minimizing downtime. The light stabilizer package includes a processing stabilizer for protecting a material during extrusion molding, and an ultraviolet stabilizer and a thermal stabilizer for preventing thermal degradation and light degradation.

Hermann Althoff, senior vice president of BASF's Performance Chemicals Division in Asia Pacific, said: "Our light stabilizers help reduce melt fracture during production and are therefore well-suited for high-requirement process conditions with high shear rates. Improved body flow control can reduce mold deposition and optimize filtration pressure, thereby extending run time, making processing more stable and reducing maintenance costs. "

BASF's light stabilizer product line includes UV absorbers to protect polymers from UV rays; and hindered amine light stabilizers (HALS), which work by removing free radical intermediates formed during photo-oxidation.

Ms. Julia Luo, Executive Vice President of Foshan Nanhai Bidefu Non-Woven Co., Ltd. said: "BASF light stabilizers bring more efficient continuous production and increase productivity. Stabilizer technology extends the life of polymers To help us expand our PP nonwovens business to outdoor applications.
