BASF’s new PPA Ultramid® Advanced series: replacing more metals

Expanding PPA portfolio further with Ultramid® Advanced T1000 (PA 6T / 6I) series

Particularly suitable for components in harsh environments, high temperature and humidity, and chemical contact conditions。

October 12, 2018 — Following the launch of the Ultramid® Advanced N series, BASF launched another series of polyphthalamide (PPA) at the German Plastics Industry Exhibition (Fakuma): Ultramid® Advanced T1000-based on A new series of compounds for polyamide 6T / 6I. Among the Ultramid series products, the Ultramid Advanced T1000 series has the highest strength and stiffness, and it still shows stable mechanical properties at temperatures up to 120 ° C (dry) and 80 ° C (wet). Due to the aromatic chemical structure of the material part, it has a high degree of moisture and corrosion resistance-superior to traditional polyamides and many other PPA materials on the market. Ultramid Advanced T1000 is an excellent product series, combining BASF's many years of application experience and existing technical expertise. It is a kind of suitable for various industries.

Rugged, stable materials for a variety of challenging applications. For example, this product line can be used in the automotive industry, especially where materials need to remain robust regardless of temperature and climatic conditions, as well as other industries with moisture or chemical resistance requirements.

Abdullah Shaikh, head of the global PPA team at BASF, said: "New materials for metal replacement are the key to the development of next-generation lightweight, high-performance components. With the development trend, the demand for materials in the market has increased sharply. BASF is continuously expanding its PPA product portfolio and is working hard to provide customers with the plastic products they need to enable them to meet various technical challenges. "

Cutting-edge technology components for multiple industries

With its outstanding performance, the Ultramid Advanced T1000 series can be applied to a variety of demanding technical components: thermostat housings and pumps, fuel lines and selective catalytic reduction systems, automotive actuators and clutch components, and coffee machines, Furniture parts and architectural applications such as water distribution pipes, heating systems and water pumps, that is, in a wide temperature range from -40 ° C to 80 ° C (conditional), require high and constant stiffness and strength. Compared with traditional aliphatic polyamides, the new PPA materials also have higher Chemical resistance. The water absorption of the material is lower than that of many aliphatic polyamides, and it has high stability and stable physical and mechanical properties even under humid conditions. Ultramid Advanced T1000 is suitable for injection molding. Ultramid Advanced T1000 grades, other polyamides or polyphthalamides have various possibilities in their post-processing (such as laser marking or welding).

Multipurpose product portfolio

For a wide range of applications, BASF offers a range of multipurpose T1000 modified materials. The initial product portfolio includes: thermally stabilized reinforced glass fiber standard grades with reinforcement grades between 30% and 60% and different stiffness, strength and toughness values; reinforcement grades of 35% or 45% and improved hydrolysis resistance Special grades of reinforced glass fibers; and special reinforced glass fibers, high thermal stability compounds, with excellent mechanical properties, especially at higher temperatures. Various grades with different thermal stabilizers can also be provided according to application requirements.
