Boeing certifies titanium Ti64 and aluminum alloy AlSi10Mg 3D printing metal powder materials, and Tekna becomes the first global supplier

In mid-July 2020, Tekna of Canada announced that it has successfully completed the certification of metal 3D printing powder materials with the leading aircraft manufacturer Boeing (NSYE: BA). This further establishes Tekna's position as a major powder supplier for aerospace OEM and its metal 3D printing services.

Through 30 years of development and improvement of patented RF radio frequency induction plasma technology, Tekna has developed high-quality powders for additive manufacturing applications. The main features are high fluidity, high density and high purity, and the production cost is controllable.

"Tekna is able to meet Boeing’s stringent BMS specifications (Boeing BMS (Boeing Material Specificafion) material specifications), and become the first qualified powder manufacturer for BMS titanium (Ti64) and BMS aluminum (AlSi10Mg). In addition, from ingot to packaged spherical Powder, Tekna has a very strong management ability in the supply chain, thus ensuring reliable supply and material traceability." Tekna CEO Luc Dionne said.

The Ti64 spherical powder material parameters suitable for SLM metal 3D printing technology, the particle size range can be customized according to customer needs (including 5-25 microns; 20-53 microns; 45-105 microns)

It is understood that Tekna is a subsidiary of Arendals Fossekompani ASA (AFK.OL), with its headquarters in Sherbrooke, Canada; it has certified AS9100 manufacturing centers in Canada and France. As a leader in the advanced materials industry, Tekna develops and produces high-purity metal powders for applications such as 3D printing and microelectronics, industrial research and production of induction plasma systems. Their plasma system has sold nearly 190 sets worldwide.

Patented radio frequency induction plasma technology

Using radio frequency induction power supply, an alternating magnetic field is generated in the body torch, thereby generating a high temperature zone in a plasma state

The core temperature reaches 11000℃, and the patented technology enables Tekna to stabilize the temperature field, theoretically it can process any material

Induction plasma has unique properties, no electrodes, high purity environment, high yield, etc.

Metal 3D printing spheroidized powder production and recycling process, so that the sphericity is better and the yield is higher.
