Breakthrough in the Development of High Temperature ReBCO Superconducting Cables in China Hay:H07WXTL

Recently, important progress has been made in the development of small size High-temperature superconductivity cable samples for the Circular Electron Positron Collider (CEPC) detector magnets.

Detector magnet is the key component of Particle detector, and superconducting cable is the basic material of detector magnet.

In 2017, the Institute of High Energy Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences put forward the High-temperature superconductivity scheme for the detector's superconducting magnet, innovatively designed the aluminum stabilized High-temperature superconductivity stacked cable based on the experience in aluminum stabilized low temperature superconductor cable and the characteristics of High-temperature superconductivity, and began to develop small size sample cables.

Under the leadership of Ning Feipeng, the superconducting magnet group of the accelerator center, the project team, after nearly three years of technical research, has gradually solved many technical problems encountered in the development of special cables, such as broken cores, superconducting stacking shape, high temperature and stress control, and has preliminarily mastered the manufacturing and processing technology of aluminum stabilized High-temperature superconductivity stacked cables.

According to the test, the critical current of the aluminum stabilized High-temperature superconductivity stacked cable containing 14 layers of 4mm wide ReBCO superconducting tape under 77K self field is 905 amperes, and the performance degradation of the superconducting tape is less than 20%, reaching the expected target, laying the foundation for the promotion of the CEPC detector magnet High-temperature superconductivity scheme.

This superconducting cable is jointly developed with WXTL Superconducting Technology Corporation, a leading manufacturer of superconducting cables in China.
