Brief introduction of titanium alloy for bolts and its mechanical properties

For titanium alloy bolts, the shear strength and tensile strength are required to reach the level of commonly used 30CrMnSiA high-strength steel. The first to be developed was the Ti-6Al-4V bolt, which was first used on the B-52 bomber by the United States in 1956. Because of its very good use effect, it was quickly promoted. However, Ti-6Al-4V cold heading is difficult to form, and its bolt heads must be heated for heading, and vacuum water quenching + aging treatment is required. Due to the high technical requirements of hot heading machines and water quenching furnaces, the investment is large, and some countries lack this Plant equipment and concentrate on developing its own titanium alloy for bolts.

Titanium alloys for bolts developed and produced in China are mainly beta titanium alloys, such as TB2 and TB3, among which TB3 has been widely used. Most of these alloy fasteners are cold-formed, the process is relatively simple, and the manufacturing cost is low. The existing steel bolt manufacturing equipment can meet the production technical requirements.
