British Innovate UK and American IACMI jointly develop high-performance composite materials, which will promote the application of new composite materials in aerospace, automotive and renewable energy fields

Innovate UK, an independent innovation unit of the UK Research and Innovation Agency, announced that it will collaborate with the United States to carry out a number of high-performance composite research, with a funding of up to 2 million pounds.

The cooperation involves 7 innovative research projects, and the new composite materials developed will promote the development of manufacturing technologies in many global areas of concern such as aerospace, automotive and renewable energy.

The composite material fully combines the strength of the fiber and the elasticity of the resin, so it is crucial to the development of the above-mentioned industries. At one time, the application of composite materials was limited to the aerospace field, but with the continuous development of process technology, composite materials were gradually used in construction, wind power and other industries.

For this British-American cooperation, the British side will cooperate with the American Advanced Materials Manufacturing Innovation Center (IACMI) and its partner companies and universities.

Simon Edmonds, Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Business Officer of Innovation UK, said: "The cooperation project will be dominated by composite manufacturers in the UK. The partners include universities and leading global scientific research institutions such as the British Welding Technology Institute (TWI) Manufacturing Innovation Centers (HVM Catapult Centres), National Composites Center, Advanced Manufacturing Research Center, etc. "

The UK is funded by the British International Cooperation Fund (FIC) to support research cooperation between existing and new well-known institutions, enterprises and universities in the UK and the US. US funding is provided by the US Department of Energy, state governments, and private companies.
