Toyota Motor Corp. has partially upgraded its Lexus-branded RC F sports car, which has significantly reduced the weight of the model ’s main components and improved driving performance. In high-end RC F sports car models equipped with a Performance Package, carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) is used not only on exposed parts such as the front spoiler, hood, roof, etc. Other invisible parts to achieve weight reduction of the model.
For example, the partition wall between the interior space and luggage space of this model uses CFRP to increase the rigidity of the body. In the previous model, the steel-based structure of the partition wall, compared with that, successfully reduced the weight by about 1 kg.
In addition, Toyota has reduced the weight of other parts of the model by hundreds of grams. The carbon-ceramic brakes of this model contribute the most to the weight reduction of the entire vehicle. By improving the material of the brake disc, compared with the original iron brake disc on this model, the weight has been reduced by about 22 kilograms. The brake disc of the car uses Brembo products from Italy.
Based on the weight reduction achieved above, the new RC F model has successfully reduced weight by about 70 kg compared with the previous model.
