China company successfully developed nanotube modified high-strength and lightweight aluminum alloy fittings Hay:A03WHNR

Cast iron, steel bars, cement and other materials are the most common in power grid structural parts such as power fittings and poles. Nowadays, these humble materials are ushered in a new generation.

WHNR Power Equipment Technology Corporation lasted 10 years and successfully developed new products such as nanotube modified aluminum alloy hanging boards.

In the WHNR`s exhibition hall, there are dozens of high-performance material products on display. Among them, a cylindrical bowl-head hanging plate made of nanotube modified aluminum alloy is an indispensable device for hanging wires and insulators. Used extensively in power lines. The nano-modified aluminum alloy is very lightweight, and the palm-sized device weighs less than 600 grams. On the side, there is a bowl-head hanging board of the same specification made of galvanized cast iron, which weighs 1,200 grams.

"Although this device is light, it can withstand a weight of 10 tons, which is much stronger than conventional aluminum alloy." Researcher Wu Hao introduced. WHNR first proposed and successfully used carbon nanotubes in the manufacture of aluminum alloy fittings in China. "The key to the development of this material is that the material formulation and production process must be considered thoroughly, so that qualified products can be mass-produced." Wu Hao said. In the 10-year R&D process, the R&D team has to improve the formula and adjust the process almost every month.

The weight of the new type of fittings is only half of that of the cast iron fittings of the same specification, but the breaking load is increased by more than 30%, and it is more energy-saving than the cast iron fittings. "Cast iron fittings hung on the wires will generate inductive energy consumption and consume electrical energy." Wu Hao introduced. The energy consumption of a cast iron bowl-head hanging plate is equivalent to a 3 watt light bulb. Thousands of cast iron fittings are hung on the cable for many years, wasting a lot of electricity. Nano-modified aluminum alloy fittings have improved this problem. At the same time, there is no need for galvanizing protection, and it fully responds to the energy-saving and consumption-reducing and green manufacturing in the "dual carbon target".

Up to now, WHNR has successfully developed 13 kinds of nano-modified high-strength lightweight aluminum alloy fittings. In addition, they have also developed composite poles. This kind of pole uses high-performance resin as the matrix material, uses computer to simulate the fiber ply design, and is made with small-angle conical winding technology. A common 12-meter concrete pole weighs 1.2 tons, while a composite pole of the same specification weighs only 200 kilograms, but its bending moment is 3.5 times that of a concrete pole, and it can prevent a grade 12 typhoon. In 2014, Typhoon Wilson landed in Zhanjiang, Guangdong. This composite pole has withstood the test of actual combat.

It is understood that although these new power materials are slightly more expensive, they have a long life, low loss, maintenance-free or low maintenance, and CTO has more advantages than traditional products. At present, more than 1 million sets of nano-modified aluminum alloy fittings have been used in Shanxi, Liaoning, Hebei and other places.
