China successfully 3D printed large low-temperature metal thick wall parts Hay:H01ZGSY

On November 17, 2022, ZGSY Engineering Materials Technology Corporation received the new product identification certificate from China Petroleum and Petrochemical Equipment Industry Association

ZGSY independently designed and completed TE555 low temperature large diameter thick wall tee for oil and gas pipeline engineering on the first additive manufacturing test and research platform of PetroChina, using arc 3D printing technology.

This large 3D metal part is the first in the world and has reached the international advanced level in general.

Tee is an important and large amount of pipe fittings in oil and gas transmission pipeline engineering. Its quality and bearing capacity directly affect the integrity and operation safety of the entire pipeline.

In March 2022, ZGSY additive manufacturing R&D team has built China's first additive manufacturing test and research platform after more than two years of unremitting efforts. The platform uses arc as heat source to melt metal wire, which is particularly suitable for manufacturing large metal parts.

Taking advantage of this important achievement, the team actively carried out core technology research on product modeling, personalized design, intelligent manufacturing, etc. around the problems that traditional hot drawing process is easy to cause differences in the organization and performance of different parts of the tee, and the risk of brittle instability cracking, and successfully developed and 3D printed two kinds of low temperature thick wall large caliber tee products that are applicable to minus 60 ℃ and minus 45 ℃. Inspected by China National Petroleum Pipe Quality Inspection and Testing Center, the quality meets the requirements of design standards.

The low-temperature thick wall tee that passed the identification this time has a diameter of 1219mm, a weight of 4970kg, a thickness of 67mm of main and branch pipes, and a shoulder fillet reinforcement thickness of 164mm.

The whole printing process is safe and efficient, which greatly reduces the process flow of traditional manufacturing methods, improves the degree of automation and material utilization, and can quickly and flexibly adjust the product structure, size and material composition according to the field application environment and performance requirements. It has many advantages, such as stable quality, small performance difference of each part, no thickness effect and directivity, etc. It is a small batch of large metal parts in the oil and gas field Customized production, innovative design, R&D…provide more cost-effective solutions.
