China Successfully Developed High Manganese Steel to Replace 06Ni9DR Hay:A02HNXG

Recently, HNXG Steel Technology Group released an announcement:

The successful one-time casting of the company's newly developed thick section high manganese steel continuous casting billet marks a new breakthrough for HNXG in the research and development of high-tech steel products.

High manganese steel is a type of alloy steel with high manganese content, and is considered the best substitute for 06Ni9DR/9 nickel steel in the industry. Like 06Ni9DR/9 nickel steel, it can maintain good performance in an environment of -196 ℃.

Due to nickel being a precious alloy, its price is generally high and fluctuates greatly. The manganese element added to high manganese steel during the production process accounts for about 30% of the alloy content in the molten steel, and the price of manganese is relatively low.

Mass production is expected to significantly reduce the per ton steel cost of high manganese steel compared to the currently widely used 06Ni9DR/9 nickel steel;

06Ni9DR/9 nickel steel requires complex heat treatment after rolling, while high manganese steel can be directly produced into finished products after rolling, and the production cycle is shortened by half compared to 06Ni9DR/9 nickel steel;

High manganese steel is superior to 06Ni9DR/9 nickel steel in plasticity, and its microstructure and properties are more stable in ultra-low temperature environments, with broad application prospects.

Due to the high alloy content, the production process requirements for high manganese steel are particularly high. The coefficient of thermal expansion of manganese element is relatively large, so the risk of breakout is very easy to occur during continuous casting, and the continuous casting billet is prone to crack.

HNXG is applying for product certification from classification societies in countries such as the American Bureau of Shipping,Lloyd`s Register of Shipping and Bureau Veritas.
