China successfully developed special polyurethane elastomer materials to fill domestic gaps

Polyurethane is one of the six major synthetic materials in the world. Among them, polyurethane elastomers have been widely used in metallurgy, drilling, shoemaking, and chemical fiber machinery due to their unique properties. However, due to the poor heat resistance and large endothermic heat of polyurethane, its application in some special fields is limited. A lot of work has been done abroad on its development, and there are many commercialized products. In contrast, domestic development is relatively backward and almost blank, and a large number of polyurethane products with special properties are still imported every year.

The Shanxi Institute of Coal Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences has accumulated a lot of experience in the field of polyurethane research and development for many years. The researchers of this institute have successfully developed special polyurethane products with enhanced functionality by introducing heat-resistant organic heterocyclic compounds into the polyurethane molecular chain structure, improving the degree of microphase separation, and adding inorganic fillers (whiskers, fibers, nanomaterials). . Compared with ordinary polyurethane elastomers, these special polyurethane products, while maintaining the original excellent comprehensive properties, highlight certain properties such as high hardness, high strength, heat resistance, and solvent resistance to meet the requirements of special applications.

For example, the temperature resistance of the developed special polyurethane elastomer has been improved, and the operating temperature has been increased from 80 ° C to 130 ° C. At present, the polyurethane elastomer has been successfully applied to drill pipe wear-resistant sleeves, high-pressure sealing rings and textile machinery in oilfield drilling Tight rings, speed-increasing wheels, friction disks, etc., have filled domestic blanks.
