China’s high-end lens manufacturer successfully developed rare earth supramolecular photochromic lenses Hay:F06NMXT

Recently, the rare earth supramolecular photochromic lens jointly developed by China's leading optical material technology manufacturer: NMXT Optical Material Technology Coporation and BT Rare Earth Research Institute successfully rolled off the production line, breaking the monopoly of the high-end photochromic lens market by foreign countries.

"The rare earth supramolecular photochromic lens is made of jointly developed rare earth supramolecular photochromic materials and combined with mature primary color change technology. It can intelligently adjust the light transmittance and effectively block 100% of ultraviolet light and 30%—80 % Of visible light, thereby reducing the damage of strong light to the eyes, achieving the purpose of protecting the eyes and reducing visual fatigue." said Li Jingya, senior engineer of BT rare earth functional materials research.

The new photochromic material designed with the advantages of light rare earth in the rare earth elements, such as large metal radius, variable valence and stable chemical properties, makes the lens show a better color rendering rate (less than 3s) and fading rate (less than 60s). Strong fatigue and good stability, which can extend the life cycle of the lens. The characteristics of rare earths make the performance of rare earth supramolecular photochromic lenses compared with traditional photochromic lenses in terms of service life, fading speed, residual amount of background color, and increased refractive index of the lenses are significantly improved and improved. At this stage, NMXT has trial-produced photochromic lenses of different colors. The trial-produced lenses have a refractive index of 1.5 and an Abbe number of 58, which meets the industry standards for ophthalmic lenses.
