China’s medical titanium alloy industry research heats up, patent applications increase

Biomedical metal materials are a class of biologically inert materials that are widely used in surgical implants and orthopedic devices in the field of orthopedics. At present, the commonly used medical metal materials are mainly cobalt-based alloys, stainless steels and titanium-based alloys.

From the perspective of patent volume, China's medical titanium alloy material patent technology covers a wide range of fields, among which chemical metallurgy (Part C), human life essentials (Part A), and operation and transportation (Part B) patent applications are the majority, especially for medical titanium alloys. The number of patents in the research of material composition (C22C) and medical use (A61L) is the highest.

Data show that as of June 10, 2020, China's medical titanium alloy related patent applications reached 474. Moreover, judging from the number of patents in various provinces and cities, many provinces and cities in my country have attached great importance to the technical research and application of the medical titanium alloy industry. Among them, Liaoning Province is the region with the largest number of medical titanium alloy patent applications, with 87; followed by Beijing, Jiangsu, Shaanxi and Hunan, with 77, 58, 57, and 42 applications. From the perspective of patent validity, there are currently 117 patents for medical titanium alloy materials in China, 217 invalid patents, and 366 valid patents. It can reflect the high quality of patents in my country's medical titanium alloy material industry. Reasons for the invalidation of the patent 1. The State Intellectual Property Office declared the patent invalid 2. The patentee stopped paying the maintenance fee and automatically terminated the patent right 3. The patentee waived his rights in a written declaration
