China’s polyacrylonitrile (PAN) -based large tow precursor and 48K large tow carbon fiber technology and process package have made major breakthroughs

SHSH's "Development of Polyacrylonitrile (PAN) -based Large Tow Yarn and Carbon Fiber Technology and Technology Package Development" project has passed the identification of a domestic expert group of the China Petrochemical Organization. This indicates that Sinopec has successfully developed a set of 48K large tow carbon fiber polymerization, spinning, and oxidized carbonization process technology, and domestic carbon fiber technology has broken through the big tow bottleneck.

Carbon fiber is called "the king of new materials". It is lighter than metal aluminum, but its strength is higher than that of steel. It has a broad application prospect. In the carbon fiber industry, those with more than 48,000 carbon fibers per bundle (48K for short) are generally referred to as large tow carbon fibers. The biggest advantage of the 48K tow is that under the same production conditions, the single-line carbon fiber production capacity and quality performance can be greatly improved.

Carbon fiber core technology has only been mastered by a few developed countries. In order to achieve self-reliance in carbon fiber technology, in 2007, SHSH deployed R & D and industrialization of PAN-based carbon fibers, and implemented construction projects in Shanghai Petrochemical, which has the advantage of acrylic fiber industry. SHSH cooperated with dozens of scientific research institutes, universities, and enterprises such as SHSH Research Institute, Shanghai Engineering Company, and Fudan University to rapidly advance carbon fiber technology research: In November 2008, a pilot plant was completed; in March 2009, it was successful Developed 12K filaments; In May 2016, carried out industrialization research trials of 48K carbon fiber tow filaments; in January 2018, successfully developed the technology of polymerization, spinning and oxidizing carbonization of large tow carbon fibers, forming a 1,000-ton PAN The technical basis of the 48K large tow carbon fiber technology package. In March, we successfully produced 48K large tow carbon fiber in the true sense in China, and went through the entire process. According to tests, after the 48K large tow original yarn is oxidized and carbonized into a 48K carbon fiber tow, the strength of the monofilament reaches high performance.

SHSH's carbon fiber has played an important role in the traditional energy field: in nine infrastructure maintenance projects, such as Mozambique's N6 highway, Tianjin-Jinbin Expressway overpass, Shenyang-Dandong railway line, Liaoning Shenwo reservoir, etc. The construction is efficient and convenient, and the structural bearing capacity is significantly improved. In addition, the carbon fiber developed by Shanghai Petrochemical has excellent performance for sucker rods in oil fields, and can completely replace imported carbon fibers. It has achieved remarkable results in the test application of Shengli Oilfield. At present, SHSH has reached cooperation intentions with offshore wind power, automotive and other industries regarding the application of 48K large tow carbon fiber.
