On March 3, 2020, led by Northwestern Polytechnical University, the National Institute of Power Investment Corporation Central Research Institute (sub-project 3: SiC / SiC cladding tube reactor simulation performance performance evaluation research) of the National Defense Science and Technology Bureau nuclear energy development project Formally passed the expert evaluation. This is the research and development work of the SiC / SiC composite cladding tube of the research institute. After the major special support of the national pressurized water reactor, it has once again won the national project support.

Since 2012, Academia Sinica and Northwestern Polytechnical University have cooperated for the first time in China to develop SiC / SiC composite core-cladding tubes. It has been successively supported by the National Nuclear Power Technology Company's Class B project, the National Pressurized Water Reactor Major Special Sub-project, the State Power Investment Corporation's scientific and technological projects and the Science and Technology Bureau's nuclear energy development project. In the past 8 years of research and development work, the comprehensive out-of-stack performance testing and characterization capabilities for SiC / SiC composite cladding tubes have been formed—composite cladding tube mechanical properties testing, thermal physical properties testing, off-stack corrosion performance According to performance testing, etc., it has been unanimously approved by relevant domestic R & D units. Related technologies can be widely used in multi-scale comprehensive performance analysis of complex ceramic materials with broad application prospects.

The approval of the nuclear energy development project of the National Defense Science and Technology Bureau is conducive to promoting the continuous development of the SiC / SiC composite cladding tube of the Central Research Institute, improving the comprehensive analysis and testing capabilities of the Central Academy of Materials, and independently developing SiC / SiC composite cladding for China The tube provides a strong guarantee.
