China’s ultra-high strength and low temperature steel manufacturer has obtained all orders for carbon dioxide carrier tank steel Hay:A02LNAG

With the increasing attention being paid to multiple issues such as combating climate change and protecting the ecological environment, carbon dioxide capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) technology has become the focus of attention from all walks of life.

In theory, CCUS can separate carbon dioxide from industrial processes, energy utilization or the atmosphere, and directly use it or inject it into the formation to achieve permanent emission reduction of carbon dioxide. Many energy and chemical enterprises have tried to use this technology as an important way to reduce carbon.

Among them, liquefied carbon dioxide carrier is an indispensable part of this industrial chain.

On March 8, 2023, LNAG Steel Technology Group, a leading manufacturer of high-strength and low-temperature steel in China, announced that the 690 MPa low temperature and high strength steel successfully developed and will be applied on the ship was launched globally. Before that, there was no practical example of low-temperature steel applied to liquefied carbon dioxide storage tanks at home and abroad.

The technical requirements of ultra-high strength low-temperature steel developed this time are extremely strict, mainly reflected in the following three points:

First, the strength level reaches the highest level of 690MPa in the global shipbuilding and marine steel standards;

Second, the low-temperature toughness reaches the highest quality grade of the global shipbuilding and marine steel standard – 60 ℃;

Third, the anti-cracking performance (CTOD performance) reaches – 35 ℃, far lower than the existing international standard of – 10 ℃. "

The ultra-high strength and low temperature steel developed by LNAG meets the safe and stable operation of the cargo tank under high pressure, low temperature and inertia loads. " This also means that ultra-high strength and low temperature steel has filled the international gap in the field of liquefied carbon dioxide storage materials and reached the international leading position.

LNAG has the only State Key Laboratory of Metal Materials and Applications for Marine Equipment in China.

It is reported that LNAG has completed the research and development of 690 MPa low temperature steel P690QL2 for the liquid cargo tank of carbon dioxide transport ships, classification society certification, application performance evaluation and batch supply and other full-chain technical work for production, research and research.

At the same time, it has also obtained the world's first carbon dioxide marine ultra-high strength and low temperature steel classification society approval certificate.

The company has obtained all orders for the steel used in the cargo tank of two international first carbon dioxide transport ships.

It is understood that the world's first 7500 cubic meters of liquefied carbon dioxide transport ship will be used in the European carbon dioxide capture and storage plan to collect the carbon dioxide generated by European industry, transport it to the carbon dioxide receiving terminal terminal in the west coast of Norway for treatment, and then inject it into the seabed for 2600 meters of permanent storage, thus reducing the carbon dioxide emissions in Europe, so as to promote the ultimate goal of carbon neutrality in Europe as a whole.
