Chinese first high-speed carbon fiber rotors and carbon fiber brushes manufacturer received a billion yuan financing Hay:D02AHMS

Hay Think learned that AHMS Advanced Materials Technology Corporation, a leading carbon fiber motor rotor manufacturer in China, recently completed a financing of several hundred million yuan.

AHMS was established in 2018 and specializes in the forward research and development of carbon fiber components. It now has the ability to design, simulate, develop, produce, and test carbon fiber high-speed permanent magnet motor rotors and their carbon fiber components.

The two core products of AHMS include carbon fiber high-speed rotors and carbon fiber brushes.

Electric motors are the key to driving new energy vehicles. In the past, the traditional motor rotor used a built-in magnetic steel structure with silicon steel sheets. When rotating at high speeds (over 20000 rpm, rpm is the unit of speed, representing revolutions per minute), the silicon steel sheets would yield, causing the rotor to burst and fail, bringing technical challenges to the improvement of speed and power.

Carbon fiber is known as the "black gold of the industry" and has material properties such as low density, high strength, high modulus, and corrosion resistance. It was first applied in high-end fields such as aerospace and military industry. Using carbon fiber as the rotor sheath of a permanent magnet motor can optimize the electromagnetic design of the rotor, increase the motor speed and power density, reduce the overall volume and weight of the motor rotor, and reduce costs.

At present, for the carbon fiber sheath forming process, the carbon fiber high-speed permanent magnet motor rotor developed by AHMS can achieve tension strength constraints exceeding 1000MPa, and the speed can reach over 35000rpm.

Previously, Tesla launched the Model S Plaid model in 2021, equipped with a high-speed carbon fiber rotor with a rotational speed of 20000 rpm. The maximum speed of AHMS's existing products is more than 1.5 times that of Tesla.

The motor speed has developed from the current 16000rpm and 18000rpm to the next generation of 20000rpm or even higher 25000rpm, and the voltage has also shifted from 400V and 600V to 800V or even higher 1000V.

In addition, AHMS's carbon fiber high-speed permanent magnet motor is not only suitable for electric vehicles, but also in the high-end equipment field. AHMS's products can be used in high-speed machining machine tools, high-speed fan compressors, high-speed textile machinery, high-end home appliances, aerospace and other fields, and have cooperated with nearly a hundred enterprises.

In terms of research and development team background, the core research and development members of AHMS come from universities such as the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics. Dr. Guo, the founder, graduated from Shanxi Institute of Coal Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and learned from Lv Chunxiang, a top expert in China's carbon fiber field and doctoral supervisor of Shanxi Institute of Coal Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Dr. Guo participated as a technical expert in the development of China's first megawatt carbon fiber high-speed rotor.

At present, AHMS's carbon fiber rotor products have been purchased in bulk by companies such as Gree Equipment, Jiangte Motor, and China National Electric Corporation 21 Research Institute. We have collaborated with over 20 main engine manufacturers and Tier 1 suppliers to jointly develop carbon fiber rotors for high-speed permanent magnet motors in new energy vehicles. We have now completed simulation calculations, sample supply, and testing for multiple models and multiple rounds
