On January 14, 2020, BASF and SHTC Advanced Materials Technology Group signed a joint agreement authorizing SHTC to produce and sell certified compostable fat-aromatic copolyesters (PBAT) in accordance with BASF's high-quality standards. To this end, SHTC will build a PBAT plant with a capacity of 60,000 tons. The plant will use BASF's process technology, and some of the raw materials produced will be sold by BASF as ecoflex products. The new plant will be put into operation in 2022 to supply the global biopolymer market.
