Chinese researchers have developed the most powerful electromagnetic shielding graphene film material

Graphite films have many excellent properties, and have broad application prospects in the fields of energy storage, electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding, thermal management, and ultraviolet lithography. However, existing synthesis methods require very high processing temperatures (~3000 ° C) and / or processing times of up to several hours, which hinders the application of graphene films.

On February 19, Researcher Ren Wencai from the Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences reported that by quenching hot nickel foil in ethanol, a high-quality graphite film with a thickness of tens of nanometers was quickly synthesized in seconds. By this method, the vertical growth rate of graphene film can reach more than 64nm · s-1, which is more than two orders of magnitude higher than the existing methods. In addition, the prepared film has excellent electrical conductivity (~2.6 × 105s / m) and high mechanical strength (~110MPa), which is comparable to or even better than chemical vapor deposition. The author shows the application potential of these graphite films in electromagnetic interference shielding. It shows an absolute shielding effectiveness of up to 481000 dB cm2 g–1, which exceeds all previously reported synthetic materials.
