Recently, the ultra-high temperature tantalate thermal barrier coating technology researched by Professor Feng Jing`s team from the National and Local Joint Engineering Laboratory of KMLG Metal Advanced Solidification Forming and Equipment Technology has achieved new breakthroughs, increasing the maximum operating temperature to 1400 degrees Celsius to 1600 degrees Celsius. Increase the thermal barrier cooling gradient by 100 degrees Celsius to 500 degrees Celsius, so that my country's thermal barrier coating technology has reached the internationally leading level.

Thermal barrier coating materials are used as thermal protective coatings for high-temperature components of aero engines and gas turbines, which can improve the service conditions of high-temperature components, extend service life, and save fuel. According to Feng Jing, the most widely used thermal barrier coating material, zirconia-based materials, will undergo a phase change when the temperature reaches a high temperature of about 1200 degrees Celsius, causing the coating to fall off and fail, and the service life will be exponentially reduced. With the continuous development of aero engine and gas turbine technology and the continuous improvement of use requirements, the operating temperature of the future aero engine may reach 2000 degrees Celsius.

After years of exploration and verification, Feng Jing`s team made full use of China`s resource advantages in rare earths and successfully developed a new type of rare earth tantalate high-temperature ferroelastic phase change ceramic material, and established a set of materials from discovery, basic property determination to final application It has applied for nearly 70 national invention patents and 4 international invention patents. China has independent intellectual property rights in the field of new rare earth tantalate ceramic coatings. At present, the technology has cooperated with companies such as Tianxuan Coating for industrial production, and will be widely used in aviation, shipbuilding and other important areas of the national economy in the future.
