Chinese researchers successfully prepared MoCrFeMnNi and TiCrFeNiMn High-entropy alloys

On June 9th, we learned from the State Key Laboratory of Advanced Processing and Recycling of Nonferrous Metals, Lanzhou University of Technology that “a kind of MoCrFeMnNi high-entropy alloy and its preparation method” independently developed by the nanomaterials and technical team led by Professor La Peiqing And "A TiCrFeNiMn high-entropy alloy and its preparation method" obtained the State Intellectual Property Office invention patent authorization (patent numbers: ZL201711173700.0 and ZL201711174536.5). It signifies that Gansu Province has achieved a major breakthrough in "low-energy alloy manufacturing technology for high-entropy alloys", and has added two new MoCrFeMnNi and TiCrFeNiMn high-entropy alloys.

It is understood that High-entropy alloys (High-entropy alloys), referred to as HEA, are alloys formed of five or more types of equal or approximately equal amounts of metals. The study found that the specific strength of high-entropy alloys is much better than traditional alloys, and the fracture resistance, tensile strength, corrosion resistance and oxidation resistance are better than traditional alloys. In the past, the main metal components in alloys may be only one or two. For example, it will be based on iron, and then add some trace elements to enhance its characteristics, so the result is an iron-based alloy. In the previous concept, the more metals added to the alloy, the more brittle the material. However, high-entropy alloys are different from previous alloys. There are many metals that will not be embrittled and are a new material. Since high-entropy alloys may have many ideal properties, they have been valued in materials science and engineering.

The nano-materials and technical team led by Professor La Peiqing has prepared a series of high-entropy alloys using the "Thermal Method". This method has simple production equipment, small footprint, adjustable production scale, many product types, and low energy consumption. , Short cycle, low cost, has a wide range of industrial production prospects. Two patents authorized by the State Intellectual Property Office for invention patents this time have proposed two new MoCrFeMnNi and TiCrFeNiMn high-entropy alloys, which have a wide range of applications. The completion of this work is expected to promote the further research and industrial application of high-entropy alloys efficiently and quickly.
