Coatings specialist Nippon Marine Coatings receives anti-fouling coating contract for Norwegian Cruises

Coatings specialist Nippon Marine Coatings has signed a long-term supply contract with Novalean Cruises (NCL) to provide antifouling systems for 13 cruise ships operated by Novalan Cruises, Oceania Cruises and Regent Seven Seas Cruises .

It is reported that this agreement was signed at the end of last year and Nippon Steel will provide its market-leading low friction for the six Oceania cruise ships, five Regent Seven Seas cruise ships and two Norwegian cruise lines "Norwegian Epic" and "Norwegian Dawn" SPC antifouling agent A-LF-Sea.

The A-LF Sea has been applied to 11 dry docks, and during the dry dock scheduled later this year, the three cruise ships "Marina", "Nautica" and "Norwegian Epic" will be coated.

Carlo Paiella, vice president of technical operations at Nova Cruises, said, "As A-LF-Sea has performed impressively in the past, we have decided to expand its supply to half of the Norwegian fleet through a more formal, long-term agreement. "He praised the reliability and performance of Nippon Coatings Technology, and added," Nippon's technical services and global supply capabilities complement the excellent fuel-saving performance we see from this low-friction paint. As a mail-boat sector Leaders, we believe it is important to do everything we can to mitigate any operation that could affect global climate change, and using A-LF-Sea has helped our vessels achieve the very stringent emission reduction targets we set.

In December 2019, Nippon Steel's low-friction hull coating system, L-F Sea, won the 2020 Japanese Government Award for its global warming prevention activities. The jury found that the use of coatings helped ships using the system reduce drag, thereby reducing fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions.

Nova Cruises currently has a fleet of 28 cruise ships. The 13 ships that have been or will be applied to the A-LF-Sea this time are the "Insignia", "Marina", "Nautica", "Regatta", "Riviera" and "Sirena" of Oceania, The Seven Seas Explorer, Seven Seas Mariner, Seven Seas Navigator, Seven Seas Splendor and Seven Seas Voyager, the Norwegian Epic and "Norwegian Dawn".

Nippon Marine Coatings also cooperates with Novozymes Cruise Line to conduct verification tests and performance monitoring of its unique biocide-free hull coating Aquaterras. A test touch-up paint has been applied to an undisclosed cruise ship. A comparison of traditional biocide coatings.
