Constellium’s new Mexico plant to produce automotive structural components

Constellium announced plans to build a new plant for the production of aluminum automotive structural parts in Mexico. The new plant, located in San Luis Potosí, can meet the growing needs of the Mexican automotive industry for lightweight high-strength aluminum accident management systems and automotive structural components. Automobile industry experts predict that by 2019, the annual output of Mexican cars will reach 5 million units, making it one of the larger markets for automobile production.

Constellium plans to invest nearly $ 10 million. The initial stage employs about 100 people. Production is expected to start in 2018.

The establishment of the San Luis Potosí plant fills Constellium's growth footprint in the North American automotive structure market. Last year, Constellium announced that it will start construction of a new automotive structural plant in Bartow in 2017. Constellium increased the capacity of the VanBuren plant in 2015 to better serve North American customers.

RicConricium North American market automotive structural parts leader Eric Krepps said that the establishment of the San Luis Potosí plant is an important step for the company's development in the North American market and has prompted Constellium to enter one of the world's larger automotive markets. Bringing the company's advanced production technology to Mexico, next to the customer's assembly plant. The company has new opportunities to support automakers in making lighter, more energy-efficient cars.
