At the press conference, Dr. Elmar Degenhart, CEO of Continental, will focus on the future healthy travel ecosystem

Shanghai, China, September 2, 2019. Global Innovative Products and Technologies: Continental Group demonstrated its products and technologies in clean, safe and connected mobility for the first time at IAA 2019. The theme of Continental Group's IAA 2019 this time is "Future travel, rhythmic life". Continental will showcase its highly integrated axle drive system for electric vehicles-this innovative technology is targeted at Chinese and European customers, with mass production scheduled to begin this year. Another near-volume product is the new short-range radar, which helps car drivers turn and protect cyclists and pedestrians. Visitors will experience these innovative products and technologies from Continental for the first time in Hall 8 (Booth A39) of IAA 2019. The press conference attended by Dr. Elmar Degenhart, CEO of the company, will be held on September 10, 2019 at 10:55 am (German CET time, 16:55 pm China time).

Continental presents key factors of future travel ecosystem at IAA 2019

"The technology that protects the environment and is accepted by society is a key factor for a healthy travel ecosystem." Degenhart said before this year's IAA: "Thanks to Intelligent Networking and its convenience for enabling us to achieve zero accidents and emissions With zero pressure, this is where Continental's expertise and strengths lie, and our advanced products and technologies help realize these visions. "

Continental Technology Highlights at a Glance:

1. The first product of its kind: Continental's electric shaft drive system will be put into production in Europe and China in the second half of this year

Continental therefore became the first supplier in the world to produce a highly integrated shaft drive system. "Our highly integrated axle drive system has made us a pioneer in this field and a step ahead of the competition. This system allows existing large manufacturers and new suppliers to quickly produce highly efficient pure electric vehicles," Continental Group Andreas Wolf, head of the powertrain business, said.

Production of highly integrated shaft drive systems will begin in China later this year

The compact axle drive system weighs less than 80 kg and integrates an electric motor, transmission, and inverter. These three components can reduce the weight of an electric car by about 20 kg — eliminating many cable connections and plugs.

Another highlight is 48-volt high-power technology. The hybrid system equipped with the new 48-volt high-power technology can enable vehicles to reach speeds of 80 to 90 kilometers per hour in pure electric drive mode. This will make an important contribution to reducing vehicle carbon dioxide emissions.

2. Prevent blind spots when turning: new short-range radar protects cyclists and pedestrians

Continental will show its new short-range radar at IAA 2019, which can detect other road users and obstacles with extremely high accuracy. This allows the turn assist system to identify dangers earlier than before, warn drivers more quickly, and request emergency braking or trigger emergency braking automatically.

3. Get on board: autonomous driving at the show

In partnership with driverless vehicle maker EasyMile, Continental will provide IAA audiences with the opportunity to test robotic taxis. During the IAA, vehicles equipped with Continental technology will drive autonomously around the exhibition venue. Spectators can get on the bus at any time near Hall 10 for a trial ride experience.

4. Tires that can feel and communicate

In the future, robotic taxis will be able to perform tire maintenance on their own. Recent research on Continental's driverless taxi tires has shown viewers how it works. Continental's sensors built into the tire tread have been able to transmit information about tread depth, possible damage and tire temperature, and the correct inflation pressure. In the future, rims will also be equipped with air pumps to adjust tire pressure even while driving. This new wheel and tire concept is called Conti C.A.R.E. and it is connected to the fleet management system via the Internet. The advantage is that it can provide information in almost real time and warn fleet managers of irregular or non-compliant operations under standard conditions, saving maintenance costs and reducing vehicle downtime.

5. Fully connected driving simulator: Experience safe, intelligent and stress-free driving to work or leisure

The technology company Continental invites visitors to its Frankfurt Auto Show booth to experience a fully connected driving simulator and personally experience the world of smart mobility. Whether going to an amusement park with family or traveling alone for business, visitors can learn from the driver's seat how the interconnected system makes driving safer, more enjoyable and easier-whether they like autonomous driving or manual driving. Continental has integrated various technologies from the R & D and Innovation Lab into the presenter, turning the future of the sci-fi integrated multimedia driving experience into reality.

6. Strengthening Lifelong Learning Ability of Cars

Continental will show at the IAA how future automotive electronics will enable vehicles to continuously learn new features. Flexible electronics and networking technology can integrate new hardware, software, and functionality even thousands of miles away. Experts visiting the show will have the opportunity to learn more.

The press conference will be held on September 10, 2019 at 10:55 a.m. (German CET time, 16:55 p.m. China time) at booth A39 in hall 8.

On the first media day, Continental will hold a press conference with the theme of "Future travel, rhythmic life". Dr. Elmar Degenhart will share with you at a press conference how Continental has played a pioneering role in technological transformation through its product and technology innovation. The focus of the conference is the role that Continental will play in the future healthy travel ecosystem.

Hackathon: Cooperation between young talents and Continental R & D team

In the second week of IAA, Continental's booth will become a research platform. The company invites young developers, engineers and programmers to collaborate with experts from Continental on future travel. This is Continental's second hackathon at the IAA in Frankfurt, the first time two years ago. Participants will again be divided into different teams this year to compete with each other, discuss new ideas with Continental experts, and further deepen their understanding of Continental and its healthy travel ecosystem.
