The Continental Structural Plastics Corporation (CSP) of the Teijin Group plans to establish a sheet molding compound (SMC) production line at its plant in Planes, France, to meet its needs in the European market. Continental Structural Plastics (CSP) will invest approximately 5.1 million euros ($ 6 million) in this SMC production line.
Continental's French plant will be the focus of European development of low-volatile VOC and SMC materials.
Continental Structural Plastics Corporation (CSP) is currently the largest manufacturer of sheet molding compounds (SMC) in North America, with an annual production of more than 84,000 tons of SMC. The SMC production line established in France will further promote the company to develop a large number of patented and advanced composite materials, including those low-volatile organic compound (VOC) materials that are being researched and developed in order to meet European market standards. The raw materials required for this production line to manufacture SMC are mainly glass fiber and carbon fiber.

The lightweight, sturdy, high-performance materials and composite material synthesis technology developed by the Teijin Group are regarded as the focus of the group's medium-term strategic transformation. On this basis, the company also plans to expand its business to become a supplier of multiple material parts.
The CSP Prance production line is both an innovative factory and a rapidly developing lightweight technology center. It mainly includes carbon fiber resin transfer molding (RTM), Class A carbon fiber resin transfer molding, and the production of thermoplastic composites. CSP purchased a 12,000 square meter (130,000 square foot) facility factory as early as 2013.
