Continental Structural Plastics develops carbon fiber reinforced thermoplastic compartments for GM pickups

Continental Structural Plastics (CSP; Auburn Hills, Michigan, USA), and its parent company, Teijin Co., Ltd. (Tokyo, Japan), recently acquired General Motors (GM; Detroit, Michigan) in Warwick, Michigan Awards for Innovation at the Annual Supplier Awards Ceremony.

Specifically, CSP and Teijin have won the award for successfully developing and implementing the CarbonPro pickup trucks of GMC SILILA. The industry's first carbon-fiber-reinforced thermoplastic pickup truck compartment is said to have saved 62 pounds of mass and provided unprecedented strength and durability.

"We let our suppliers lead the industry," said Steve Kiefer, senior vice president of global procurement and supply chain at GM. "They continue to provide innovation and quality that will help us win our customers for life."

CSP and Teijin are one of four suppliers that received the Innovation Award, which was selected by a global team of General Motors procurement, engineering, quality, manufacturing, and logistics managers. The winners were selected based on performance standards in product sourcing, global sourcing and manufacturing services, customer care and after sales services, and logistics.
