On May 13th, an exciting news came from the China Nuclear Fusion Research Base: The stainless steel extrusions independently developed and produced by SXTG Advanced Materials Technology Group met the requirements of the ITER plan contract and successfully passed the acceptance by the expert group. This is another series of products independently developed and produced by SXTG after the nuclear fusion copper clad stainless steel composite plate products are applied to the ITER program.

 

“ITER” is the English abbreviation of “International Thermonuclear Fusion Experimental Reactor” and is habitually called “artificial sun”. “ITER Project” is a multilateral scientific international cooperation project second only to the “International Space Station” in the world today. The plan will integrate the main scientific and technological achievements of controlled magnetic confinement nuclear fusion in the world today, and is a key step for human controlled nuclear fusion research to become practical.

 

The stainless steel extrusion products tested by the expert group this time will be used in the conductor coil box part of the ITER project. The materials used in the ITER project are divided into hundreds of purchase packages and produced globally. At the beginning of 2010, SXTG began to conduct technical research and exploration for related products of the correction field coil (CC) procurement package. In this purchase package, the original design of the conductor coil box was formed by the tailor-welded sheet metal forming process. After careful analysis, SXTG technicians boldly suggested that the process be directly extruded integrally instead of tailor-welded forming. The resulting products are not only The appearance quality is stable and reliable, and the internal structure quality can be greatly improved during the high temperature hot extrusion process. As soon as this alternative proposal was put forward, it immediately received a positive response from the CC procurement package, and the two parties immediately started a cooperative trial.

 

In order to ensure the success of the test, SXTG attaches great importance to it and cooperates closely with scientific research units such as the International Organization of the ITER Program, the European Nuclear Research Center, the International Thermonuclear Fusion Energy Execution Center of the Ministry of Science and Technology, and the Institute of Plasma of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. It has made careful arrangements and steadily progressed. After 6 years of hard work, stainless steel extrusion products tailored for the ITER project were successfully launched.

 

In an interview with reporters, Zhang Baolin, project manager of SXTG product development business department, said that around the ITER plan, in recent years, SXTG has successively developed a variety of special materials such as large-thickness copper + stainless steel composite plates, rectangular steel, and outer square inner round pipes. The cause of nuclear fusion has made positive contributions. In the future, there will be many unique SXTG products on the “artificial sun” one after another.
