Corning releases Astra Glass protective glass: for iPad, laptop and 8K large screen devices

Many people's understanding of Corning Corporation may have started with Gorilla Glass. Since Steve Jobs applied it to the iPhone in 2007, Corning's Gorilla Glass has become a hit, becoming the number one choice for mobile phone screens of major mobile phone manufacturers. Today, Corning has introduced the sixth generation of Corning Gorilla Glass on smartphones. According to foreign media XDA-Developers report, Corning recently launched a new Astra glass, which will be used in the computer and television fields.

Astra Glass is a variant of Gorilla Glass. It is aimed at larger displays, such as iPads, laptops, and high-resolution TVs, especially 8K TVs. Affects the resolution or pixel density, which can improve the accuracy of brightness and color reproduction. In addition, Astra glass is also compatible with a variety of high-performance liquid crystal display panels, including amorphous silicon (a-Si) and indium gallium zinc oxide (IGZO).

According to Han Yim, director of high performance display business at Corning Glass Technology, in order to bring the corresponding technology to larger size and high resolution equipment, Astra Glass meets the precision and high temperature requirements of the oxide processing process, with low total pitch variation, low Changes in total thickness and low sag.

So far, we have not been able to confirm which computer equipment will use the new Corning Astra glass. It is reported that Corning will display related equipment prototypes at DisplayWeek in California this week.
