Covestro and Aquilaboards use polycarbonate for electric surfboards

Covestro provides materials for injection-molded battery cases that have been used in new electric surfboards.

Bilbao-based Aquilaboards uses Covestro's Bayblend FR3010 impact-resistant, durable, and flame-resistant battery case for its electric surfboards.

Bayblend FR3010 has higher heat resistance, impact resistance and stress crack resistance.

It also has good dimensional stability because the battery must always fit completely into the socket to avoid water ingress. In addition, Bayblend FR3010 reached UL 94 V-0 in the flame retardancy test of Underwriters Laboratories, and reached V-1 at 1.2mm thickness.

Miguel Angel Montero Diaz, Covestro's Iberian Polycarbonate Director, said: "The balance of the plastic material is impressive and well suited for this application. In addition, it has high heat resistance and excellent mechanical parameters , Good flame retardant properties and excellent chemical resistance. Bayblend FR3010 is a model of Covestro's accumulated expertise in polycarbonate case high-performance rechargeable batteries for many years. Therefore, this is also the case. Covestro has solidified its reputation as a high-capacity supplier of materials specifically for electric vehicles, which can meet a range of complex requirements over a wide temperature range and is also suitable for low-volume applications.
