Covestro: First Polyurethane Wind Turbine Blade Successfully Installed

Covestro polyurethane wind blades can well meet the design requirements of longer and longer fan blades, and can also withstand the higher wind pressure brought by high towers. This is inseparable from the unremitting efforts of Covestro's global wind energy R & D team and the support of many partners upstream and downstream of the industry chain.

The wind turbine blades need to run in a harsh environment for a long time. In order to prove my strength, I underwent a comprehensive test and successfully passed the static and fatigue tests (including wobble and waving directions) of Beijing Jianheng Certification Center (CGC). Not only did I prove that the polyurethane resin itself has excellent mechanical properties and fatigue resistance, but also faster production, which can reduce blade manufacturing costs.

In addition, my brother, another set of 2.2 MW, 59.5-meter blades, also made of Covestro polyurethane resin, has also been installed in the south.

From R & D innovation to successful installation of polyurethane blades, this is another milestone for us. Polyurethane not only has excellent performance, it can make lighter and longer blades in the future, but also can improve production efficiency and reduce production costs. We hope to work with partners around the world to contribute to the broad prospects of wind energy.
