Covestro polycarbonate film provides security protection for security documents

Makford® ID polycarbonate film from Covestro provides anti-counterfeiting protection for secure identification applications. Security is essential for identification documents (IDs) such as citizen ID cards, driver's licenses and passports. However, low-cost materials and decentralized personalized designs make documents vulnerable to forgery.

In light of this, security printing companies and card manufacturers are turning to polycarbonate, a material with excellent durability, whose unique physical properties can help improve the security of documents. In fact, some US states and some Canadian provinces have adopted polycarbonate-based driver's licenses.

In response to the growing demand for polycarbonate materials in secure identity applications, Covestro has developed a range of Makford® ID polycarbonate film product solutions.

These materials provide the durability required for secure identification. Polycarbonate films are laminated under high temperature and pressure to form an inseparable bond, making it nearly impossible to tamper with the document.

The security features and personalized data embedded in the card cannot be accessed without causing significant damage, thus providing the document with excellent protection against copying and forgery.

In addition, the transparent window technology also provides new security features for anti-counterfeiting. Covestro has developed a thin film that is extremely thin and has a high degree of light shading, making it particularly suitable for seamless integration in transparent window applications.

Strengthening Federal Certification Security

Covestro is a supplier to the US Government Publishing Office (GPO), which uses Makford ® ID polycarbonate films for a variety of identification applications.

Steve LeBlanc, general manager of security and smart documents at the U.S. Government Publishing Office, said: "Polycarbonate materials are a key manufacturing component that helps strengthen national security federal certification security. The GPO looks forward to advancing important identification documents such as cross-border documents and smart cards. During the production process, we will continue to maintain a cooperative relationship with Covestro. "

Covestro Business Development Specialist Frank Mannarino further said, "Due to the inherent quality of polycarbonate and the integrated security features, the security identity document made with our special polycarbonate film is one of the most anti-counterfeit security features. . "

Materials help achieve safety features

Makoff® ID polycarbonate film can be used as a white core film, transparent film and transparent laser-optimized cover film during the card manufacturing process. These materials are more durable than other traditional card materials on the market.

According to Thorsten Dreier, Global Head of Covestro Special Films, polycarbonate films have been used in security documents and ID cards issued by governments in more than 30 countries. "Covestro is recognized as a leader in innovation and technology in the high-security printing industry. We will continue to advance material technology innovation to help achieve the most secure anti-counterfeiting features." Dreier added.

Makford® ID polycarbonate film provides the following outstanding properties for identification documents, including:

Excellent transparency grade material for windows
