Covestro’s Platilon series of special breathable thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) films used in Holst Centre to jointly develop skin-friendly wearable devices

Wearable electronic patches (wearable devices) have been used in many areas of medicine, including patient monitoring and diagnosis.

To this end, Covestro has developed a special breathable thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) film in the Platilon series. This material is suitable for customers and a roll-to-roll manufacturing process has been designed for them to enable efficient production of wearable devices.

Holst Centre is known for its expertise in printed electronics and wearables. The material is ready for market.

Electronic components can be printed on the film and embedded in a thermoformable polyurethane foam covered with a second layer of film for better wearing comfort. The patch is then fixed with a special skin-compatible adhesive that adheres firmly to the skin but allows the patch to be removed painlessly.

The adhesive system and thermoformed foam are based on Baymedix polyurethane raw materials. Therefore, Covestro provides a complete solution for modern and high-quality wearable patches.

In addition to wearable patches, Covestro will also present a design study at the K show in 2019 to present different wearable designs based on medical uses.

Covestro is providing convincing designs and materials to replace existing wearable raw materials, and is also considering progress in printed electronics to demonstrate that its materials can contribute to design and increase patient focus on patient comfort Degree and skin sensitivity.
