Development of continuous fiber reinforced high performance thermoplastic prepreg

In recent years, a variety of impregnation methods for continuous fiber-reinforced high-performance prepregs have appeared. Common methods include melt impregnation method, solution impregnation method, powder vulcanization impregnation method, powder suspension impregnation method, and knitting preparation method.

Development status of foreign technology

Foreign research on continuous fiber-reinforced high-performance prepreg started earlier and is currently in the industrial production stage. Imperial Melt Chemical Industry Co., Ltd. has developed carbon fiber / polyetheretherketone unidirectional composite prepregs such as APC-1 and APC-2 successively through the melt impregnation method since 1982; the American Ticona company has prepared High performance unidirectional continuous fiber reinforced thermoplastic composite prepreg. In Germany, thermoplastic prepreg tape was successfully prepared by powder suspension impregnation method. Its production speed is 5 m / min, and the fiber volume content of the prepreg tape is 60%. In addition, the French company BASF also used this impregnation method to prepare thermoplastic carbon fiber composite products.

The powder fluidized impregnation method is used to prepare the powder prepreg tow. First, the carbon fiber tow is widened and thinned; then, the resin powder is evenly coated on the fiber surface through a fluidized bed filled with 10 μm of fine powder; Finally, it is wrapped with a resin film to obtain fiber bundles wrapped with resin powder, that is, powder impregnated bundles (Powder Impregnated Bundles). This kind of prepreg tow is soft in texture and can be woven into various fabrics. After sticking into a fixed shape, it can be made into a composite material by heating and pressing, which is very convenient to use. The fiber blending technology processes thermoplastic resin into fine fibers, and then mixes it with carbon fibers into a fabric to improve the wettability of the resin and fibers.

2. Domestic technology development

Domestic research on continuous fiber reinforced high-performance thermoplastic composite prepreg preparation technology has begun 20 years ago. The current industrialization is: glass fiber reinforced PP thermoplastic composite prepreg tape, which has been used in RVs, refrigerator trucks, containers and boxes. On a van.

Other domestic research results include: a set of small-scale test device for impregnating continuous fiber thermoplastic prepreg tape. The device uses mechanical rollers to widen the fiber tow. The impregnation method is melt impregnation. Finally, continuous carbon fiber prepreg tape and continuous glass fiber prepreg tape with a resin content of 40% to 70% are obtained. The solution impregnation method was used to study the process of impregnating various fibers with PPESK resin solution, and the influence of different parameters on the impregnation effect and the properties of composite materials was analyzed; continuous carbon fibers were immersed in a suspension of PPS powder and diphenyl ether ketone. A prepreg with superior performance was prepared; PPS and water were mixed to form a suspension-like PPS slurry to impregnate continuous fibers to prepare a thermoplastic prepreg. The powder impregnation process of continuous glass fibers was studied, and the results showed that the powder impregnation effect increased with the decrease of the particle size of the powder or the increase of the number of rollers; the fiber tow was prepared into a thermoplastic prepreg tape by the powder fluidized impregnation method, and A test device for preparing thermoplastic prepreg tape was set up.

3. Industrialized Technology

3.1 Domestic Commercialized Thermoplastic Prepreg Progress

The domestic industrialized preparation method is to prepare prepreg tapes made of thermoplastic resins such as glass fiber reinforced PP, PA, PC, PE, etc. by casting. At present, some manufacturers have made prepregs made of carbon fiber prepreg PA or PEEK. There are no batch applications for application reasons. The most widely used in the market today is glass fiber PP prepreg.
