Dow launches new DOWSIL silicone optical bonding material Not afraid of the harsh environment of automotive displays

Silicone technology innovator Dow Corporation has launched two new optical bonding materials, the Dow VE series products, to help improve the readability, strength and service life of display devices, suitable for automotive and consumer applications under harsh environmental conditions Electronics display.

They include TDOWSIL VE-2003 UV optical bonding material, suitable for bonding glass or plastic covers or touchpads to LCD or OLED displays, and DOWSIL VE-4001 UV electrodes to protect the electronic components of the display Protective resin.

Jayden Cho, global market leader for high-performance silicone consumer products at Dow, said:

"Interconnected car interactive displays are playing an increasingly important role in safety, navigation, entertainment, etc. Consumers expect an extraordinary user experience. Automotive interiors are used in harsh conditions, and on-board displays must also be used over the life of the vehicle Within its performance. "

According to Jayden Cho, compared to traditional organic materials, DOWSIL VE series optical bonding materials have better readability, visibility and reliability, and support new design requirements, and can easily adapt to existing optical bonding Craft.

These two powerful silicone materials are representative of the latest generation of DOWSIL VE series of optically transparent resins, and their excellent optical properties help automotive and consumer electronics displays achieve their outstanding performance.

This series of products have many advantages such as high light transmittance, low haze, extremely low yellowing, and high reliability, and can maintain high performance even under extreme temperature, high humidity and long-term ultraviolet radiation.

According to statistics, it is expected that the compound annual growth rate of the automotive display market will exceed 10% by 2025, and the total shipments will reach 350 million units. The current mainstream design trend is the collection of a series of display technologies such as touch screen, large screen, curved screen and head-up display.

Provide a reliable optical bonding solution

In recent years, the automotive industry has become more stringent in testing conditions for environmental reliability such as thermal aging, thermal shock, and alternating humidity and heat, and the reliability requirements for optically transparent resins have also become higher and higher.

To meet this challenge, Dow has developed a new generation of Dove VE series materials. Taoxi VE-2003 UV optical bonding material is a transparent, solvent-free one-component UV curing solution, which can be used for display made of glass or plastic (such as polymethyl methacrylate PMMA or polycarbonate PC). The cover or touch panel is glued to the display.

The material can resist aging and yellowing caused by ultraviolet radiation, extreme temperature and humidity, and maintain a transmittance of more than 99% before and after reliability testing.

DOWSIL VE-2003 UV optical bonding material has excellent bonding performance, self-leveling after coating, low modulus to avoid mura effect, high dimensional stability (shrinkage rate less than 1%), suitable for larger displays . The texture is still very soft after curing, helping to provide cushioning and stress relief for fragile parts.

Bringing all-silicon based solutions

Electrodes in display modules have high mechanical sensitivity and are susceptible to humidity, temperature, and especially ultraviolet rays. Applying silicone solutions to electrode protection and optical bonding can optimize the reliability of display modules.

It also avoids the incompatibility of silicone optical adhesive materials with organic electrode protection resin (EPR). The incompatibility will cause the silicone OCR to fog, yellow and soften under high temperature (up to 105 ° C) and strong ultraviolet light inside the car, which will fail the solar radiation test.

In order to provide the industry with a silicon-based electrode protection resin (EPR) compatible with DOWSIL's VE-2003 UV optical adhesive material, Dow has developed Tao Xi's VE-4001 UV electrode protection resin. In view of its low volatility, the resin is safe and reliable, and can maintain stable hardness and adhesive properties before and after testing. The cured material relieves stress on sensitive parts.

DOWSIL VE-4001 UV electrode protection resin is a translucent one-component UV-curable silicone resin, designed for liquid bonding processes and sold worldwide.
