Dow signs PCG cooperation agreement with PCG subsidiary PETRONAS Chemicals Glycols

PETRONAS Chemicals Glycols Sdn Bhd CEO Encik Zamri Japar and Dow Singapore and Malaysia Regional Manager Paul Fong signed the agreement on behalf of the agreement. Datuk Sazali Hamzah, Managing Director and CEO of PETRONAS Chemicals Group Berhad, and Jon Penrice, President of Dow Asia Pacific.

Dow METEOR ™ RETRO Ethylene Oxide (EO) Catalysts Help PETRONAS World-Class EO Plants Improve Plant Performance, Reduce Carbon Emissions and Reduce Energy Consumption.

Dow recently announced that it has signed an agreement with PETRONAS Chemicals Glycols, a subsidiary of Petronas Malaysia Petrochemical Group and a subsidiary of Malaysian chemical producer Malaysian Petrochemical Group (PCG), to support carbon projects at PETRONAS 'world-class EO production facilities to support The official carbon partnership between Dow and the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Through this partnership, Dow and PETRONAS Chemicals Glycols are working together to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the PETRONAS Chemicals Glycols EO plant.

Ethylene oxide is one of the most important chemical raw materials in the world, which is essential for the manufacture of consumer goods, including textiles, detergents, insulation materials, etc.

It is reported that PETRONAS Chemicals Glycols deployed Dow's proprietary EO catalyst at its EO plant in Terengganu, Malaysia, thereby reducing operating costs. More efficient catalyst technology improves EO selectivity and process reliability, while reducing carbon dioxide emissions and energy consumption.

As part of the carbon project, Dow and PETRONAS Chemicals Glycols will jointly quantify and obtain third-party verification of climate benefits based on the methodology of the Dow Climate Solutions Framework. This will help balance IOC's operational carbon footprint.

PETRONAS Chemicals Glycols' plant in Malaysia is the first customer of Dow to use its state-of-the-art METEOR ™ EO-RETRO 2000 catalyst ("MR2000 Catalyst"). This catalyst is part of a family of Dow's highly selective EO catalysts that improve the performance of EO production processes while reducing energy consumption.

The MR2000 catalyst has been successfully used in Dow-licensed and non-Dow-licensed EO processing plants. It has a higher selectivity for EO and converts more raw ethylene into the required EO products, thereby reducing the formation of by-product carbon dioxide.

"The Dow-IOC partnership aims to promote better technology and processes, demonstrate resource efficiency and more sustainable practices in different industries and markets." Dow Olympic and Sports Solutions Global Technology and Dr. Nicoletta Piccolrovazzi, Director of Sustainable Development.

Faye J. Miller, Director of Licensing and Catalysts Products, Dow Industrial Solutions, said: "Energy-intensive industrial processes that generate direct carbon emissions provide great opportunities for transformative technologies that can impact the sustainability of the plant. Dow The METEOR ™ RETRO series of EO catalysts enables plants using any EO process technology to reduce operating costs while improving plant performance, showing that superior catalysts can help plants improve business and environmental performance.
